Besitos- A Bachelor Final Rose Recap

Awwwwwwwwwkward  It is a challenge to really structure this "recap" post, so instead I turn to bullet points- let's call them Besitos. If I had to use one word over and over again, and I did from 8-11pm last night, it would be Awkward ! Awkward scenes with Claire, Awkward Venezuelan family scenes, Awkward that Nikki isn't loved...just so awkward. Did anyone else feel I don't know, NOT surprised at all , when Claire shared that she had never "told off" a man before? Yea...we could tell.  We like you for the most part...but that move needs some work.  The worst thing you can ever do while telling someone off is stumble over your (awkward) words.  Truly the only part I could get behind was her Stand-Back-Buddy! pose when he immediately went in for a hug after dumping her (in lieu of proposing).  Where it all began...the big TELLING Off, that is Hey Nikki, stop pretending you DON'T care if this man says he loves you or not.  It'...

What I just learned from bloggin' around

1.  Tartan is cool.  I have a tartan dress that isn't that cool.  Why don't I wear that tartan dress with something over the top (like my BR white button up) and a skinny black belt...and my black hand-me-down booties...and a feminine jeweled necklace?   DUR! # AnythingWithStuds . 2.  I really should spend more time in second-hand/discount stores.  I like designer things.  I don't like designer prices.   Bingo! # LoveCheria 3. Even hardcore people wear the same workout gear over and over and over again. Alright! #HelloDay 4.  I don't have many blogs that I follow.  Bloggateers..."comment" me suggestions if you have them!  Anything from simple great writing, to health/fitness and girly stuff!  Please & Thank you. 5.  Finishing a sentence with just one word that best translates to "But of COURSE!" is my favorite way to show genuine enthusiasm.

In the bathroom at work

I've mentioned before that I'm just not that creative...not even close to some women I know (in person or in blog). Maybe someday I'll be really good at arranging flowers and using a sewing machine, without hurting myself...or getting bored.  Today isn't that day. I do seem to be getting a little more creative (even getting better perhaps) with putting together an outfit.  Most of my creations happen Monday through Friday for work. Being a non-teacher these days has definitely helped this area of my life. Don't get me wrong there are plenty of stylish and adorable teachers. But when I taught, I scanned the scene and quickly realized putting in a mere 10-20% effort into my style met all necessary expectations. I think we were all just really tired most of the time.  I also attribute motivation in this area of my life to my teeny-boppers at home. I want my girls to see that the way a woman presents herself is important....and I really like it when I wear somet...

What I learned at Old Navy

I don't think I'm a super fancy girl, but I do hate Old Navy...so maybe I am. I can plow through a Marshalls, TJ Maxx, (and even Ross with the right amount of energy) and love every minute.  There's just something about child mannequins and ill fitting cotton that makes me...itchy? This week I was forced to patron Old Navy and came up with what I think are pretty productive rules.  If properly followed, a decent shopping experience can be had at Old Navy. Get ready.  These are ground breaking... 1)  While it's tempting to get a smoking deal on an entire outfit, it is absolutely necessary to only  purchase the top tier clothing at Old Navy.  Don't worry this won't break the bank, I don't think.  On Wednesday's lunch hour for example, I ended up buying a light weight knit pull-over that was $24.95 after trying on whole ensembles that would have cost the same amount.  I won't get into the whole "trying on" experience there- maybe a lat...

Wonder Woman is that you?

As Halloween comes near I am reminded of Old Hallows' Eves past. Last year (hold for cliche) I was a pirate. Judge me if you must. It was a group effort and since I was still broke from Euro trip '08 it was one of the only costume ideas I could afford. Gotta love second hand stores that carry pleather, jagged edged skirts and $2 eye patches (new, not used. Hygeine doesn't always come first but as a means of avoiding pink eye, should). I believe Halloween ensembles always create a dilemma for young gals. "Let's see, 2 tanks of gas in my car or sleezy costume from one of those stores that is an empty warehouse year 'round until the month of October?" Decisions decisions! The year before last, apparently funds were of plenty as I did in fact purchase one of those sleazy warehouse costumes. The worst of it being that I have an entire Rubbermaid of costumes. So, I dressed up as a cheerleader. Insert cringe here. What the spirit of rebellion against a crazy...

Chick Flick Night

I cannot begin to tell you how much I appreciate a good "Chick Flick." I think it's kinda funny that this term has been coined (I mean I get it, it rhymes, very clever) but c'mon you know the fellas like these "flicks" too! They pretend they're being draaaaaaaaaaged to them by their gf's but I believe that when the roomies are gone for the weekend and the testosterone in the apartment is down, The Notebook and How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days is at the top of the NetFlix Cue! Last night I saw The Time Travelers' Wife with a girlfriend. Between the Quizno's 'wiches and diet cokes we smuggled in, the entertaining previews, and the movie itself (McAdams and Bana's work-incredible) it was a great evening. Although some of the crowd was the typical "dragged" bf and his chick flick lovin' gal, I couldn't help but appreciate being there with my bartending buddy. Seeing previews of the latest Matt Damon film gave us bo...

Vulnera-mole

I recently got some health insurance. It's amazing how much peace of mind one can have knowing that in case some dirty kids get ya sick...you can actually get some affordable medicine! Since it's the off season in my industry, in other words school is out for summer, I don't worry about this quite as much as I worry about things like that weird lookin' mole on my left thigh. I scheduled a full-on, check 'er all out, physical last week. The insurance I have has a list of providers much like any other. I scrolled down and found the first doctor that met my three requirements: 1) Within 20 minutes of my house, gas these days is rough. 2) A female...for annual exam situations and such 3) A last name which I can pronounce. Not that I don't enjoy and appreciate other cultures and even a thick accent from time to time (especially on a tall, dark and handsome male) but, in conversations about my irregularly frequent heart burn for example, I'd like to ha...

Which girl are you gonna fluff?

I always envy those sales people who are so enthralled with their product that their enthusiasm nears eerie. After being fitted for my latest bridesmaid dress I was told I would be needing a very, very special bra...one nothing less than what can be purchased at The Perfect Fit in Tustin, California. We went to the shop and the saleswoman was one of these folks who LOVES what she sells. I was so blown away by her passion for undergarments that I didn't even catch her name. For now we'll call her the "Bra enthusiast (BE)." BE took me into the antique decorated fitting room. There was one of those old school, fabric stools, which was used to hold my current (and apparently ghetto) bra and a thick velvet curtain used to hide my shirtlessness. BE was very intense. Her bra-related verbiage was spoken with precision and seriousness. This was a no-nonsense matter. She started by measuring me. I asked if she needed me to take off the bra I was wearing, wanting an accurat...

Spring Break '09-Teacher gone wild!

This Spring Break has been quite eventful thus far. It started out last Friday with a Bachelorette Party...not mine, trust me that much could not possibly have progressed in my love life since the last post! It was for the big sis who will be tying the knot in less than 6 weeks! 11 gals set out to Palm Desert to find the following truth: When this many females enter a public place and one of them is wearing a veil, many drinks and even a dinner bill will be picked up by males in close proximity...all weekend. In addition to this fun and practically free weekend of shenanigans, spring break continued with a Sunday night of long island iced teas and Long Boards reggae (won't mention the next morning, which is proof I'm not as tolerant as I used to be!), a day at the beach, a little bit of bartending, hostessing the besties with a warm-weather apprope dinner, spring cleaning and finally a hair appointment. Note: This blonde is au naturale, but uses some highlight help from...

Grace Face

I had a conversation tonight with my incredibly intelligent and insightful roommate. It started out as most of our discussions do, talking about boys. Yes, I'm 24 years old, pay bills like nobody's biz and hold down two jobs...and still have conversations about "boys." Take your judging elsewhere :) Anyway, we were talking about a "third party" gal who has the expectations of Charles Dickens. This gal went over 22 years without dating, simply because no one met her very, very straight and narrow expectations. When the story began with "3rd party" declining dates due to the prospect's lack of asking her father for permission first, I shared my opinion by pretending I was violently throwing up on the couch. Seriously? Live a little girlfriend! Then the convo continued and we decided that it's only logical that if you widen your expectations the quantity (not necessarily quality) of options expands exponentially. We're a house of ma...

How do I do that???

So I've been recently working on being ME all the time...one of my many "Self-Improvement in the mid twenties-isms" I'm really good at being ME most of the time, but would LOVE to be one of those extremely confident and secure women who is just herself in every given situation... all instead of most of the time! There are times when I definitely hold back and it's generally because of the company I'm in at that given moment. The funny thing is it's an epic battle internally to hold back because my natural inclination is to give my all, all the time, with relationships especially (By the way, I HATE when people say exspecially, there's no X! Don't mind my tangent) Anyway, I have talked to many wise people, females in particular, who have helped me realize that my normal state and being is very vulnerable and it's a balancing act to be who I naturally am and keep my heart safe. I generally do and say things in a way that make who I am very m...

You know you're PMSing when...

Costco won't let you pick up your photos (that will complete Dad's Christmas present) and you take the following actions: 1. You start out by frantically looking through the "M" file at the photo counter and making your frustration with your envelope's missing status known by exhaling loudly. 2. You get remarkably annoyed with the Costco employee who can't spell Morgan, possibly the least unique last name of all time. 3. You attempt taking control of the situation by going to the "Costco Photo Center confirmation email" via your handy Samsung and act completely impatient as you wait to "connect." 4. When the "Photo Expert" finally finds your photos and innocently admits to having spelled Morgan wrong (after already correcting him, see #1 above) you wait 'til he looks away and roll your eyes in total aggravation. 5. After being told your card is expired and he cannot sell you your already printed photos, you act lik...

Grab the bull by the horns

Sometimes you just have to grab the bull by the horns. I'm not sure why that saying means what it means but if you don't know what it means, think "Bite the bullet", "Grab life by the balls..." (okay that one's a little vulgar, not sure who came up with it, but you get the picture) So I'm an extremely (almost to a fault) neat person. Not neat as in "wow that's neato!" But neat as in my bed is always made, my blow dryer is put away daily (OK weekly, I don't wash my hair that often) and my laundry is either washed, folded and in its proper drawer or in a laundry basket strategically placed in a spot you can't see. After a busy weekend, I told my roommate that my room had just gotten "disastrous." I think that I tell people things like this every once in a while to prevent them from thinking I'm crazy. "Oh yea, my room is soooo messy...I'm like totally normal and don't have things clean all the time....

It's a love/hate relationship

Seriously I have a love/hate relationship going on...with many people. Some of those include LC, "Speidi", Audrina, Whitney, Lo and Justin Bobby. Why do I still watch THE HILLS?! I love/hate that show so much! I watch it religiously, TIVO it even, and find that every week I wanna throw my glass of wine against the Toshiba! (This could really be a problem for the 'Tosh and my white shag rug...also wasteful) I don't know what it is. I fear if I miss an episode I won't know what's going on, like what Spencer did this week that will make my skin crawl. How poorly did Justin Bobby treat Audrina...and was he wearing combat boots at the time? How many people did LC help...Holly, Stephanie, a struggling FIDM student? So many plots! Really the entire show is about a bunch of tools treating these young 20-something girls like trash and the dumb girls thinking it's sweet. How annoying is that? Very annoying apparently. I can't help it though! I...

Please don't use personification when discussing my cervix!

My Disclaimer: Don't read this unless you are a female. So I had to have a yearly exam (as all females should, shame on you if you don't!) and as most of you know that includes being felt up and a little bit invaded by your doctor. What the procedure really entails I'm sure you've figured out for yourself already...so I won't go there. A minor detail in this story is that I had to go to good 'ol "PP" (Planned Parenthood, we don't say the full name, it's embarrasing) because I currently don't have health insurance. Don't judge me. AnyHOO, no pun intended, the crowd was quite interesting in the waiting room...especially because this particular "PP" is located in "PB", a beachy area in San Diego which inhabits many peculiar folk... A bestie came along for the entertainment of it all. As we observed the waiting room community we laughed about some good stuff: 1) the girl wearing "Apple Bottom Jeans" (r...
