Secret Crock Pot

As I've mentioned recently, I've been doing a little "labeling" around Blonde Story Short.  The funnest part about it (funnest not being a real word) is being reminded of what life was like up to six years ago and seeing the patterns throughout my stories.  One label that I couldn't help but create was titled "WHY?" The WHY? posts typically centered around something ridiculous...spilling coffee directly onto the boobs on my way to tutor junior high boys, falling in the middle of a "dance circle" (while doing the "shopping cart"), things of that nature...feel free to check out the 12ish posts labeled WHY?  I have no idea how you do that, but I'm sure Blog spot has a tool for it. Today, as I prepped my 10am morning snack, I like structure okay?, I asked myself this very broad question.  I cut up a half banana and already sliced apples (into now cubed apples) and wondered WHY eating these two half fruits together on a plate with ...

Valentine's Day

I'm really torn about where to go on this one. HAPPY, CRAFTY Valentine's post?  I DIDN'T MAKE HEART SHAPED pancakes  either   Valentine's  post? Let's just see where we end up. There is so much one could do to celebrate Valentine's Day, every other holiday, milestones, friendships, pretty much anything... One word sufficiently explains exactly what I'm talking about- Pinterest .   I dare you to go on Pinterest, especially around a holiday, and not end up feeling like a total shmuck when you eventually "X" out of the page. I'm sort of kidding, but not really.  I usually start off totally pumped and pretending that I have time to go to "Michael's" for project materials. Is that where people go for project materials?  I honestly have NO idea.  Please don't misunderstand my opinion of Pinterest.  I literally go on every other day and love it. I use it mostly for inspiration since I likely won't do ex...

A Quarter-Century

Today I turned 25. It seemed a little anti-climactic since I've been celebrating for the past 48 hours (life is just so hard). Being that my birthday usually falls on Labor day weekend I tend to do that. I started out Saturday with a typical San Diegan social event...beach followed by bar. Now that I'm OLD, I didn't get drunk and hung-over the next morning, instead I was what one might call balanced and had two margaritas (that were of course purchased for me, gotta love birthdays), an ice cream cone, and a good night's sleep. Holla. Sunday was the fam party which consisted of close friends, fam and OC-tastic BBQin. Since today is a Monday, and NOT Labor Day, it happens to be the first day of school. That may have been a bummer to some but to me all I can say is THANK GOD! A little structure never hurt anybody! Especially a yellow, ESFP, ADHD, Virgo! You'll have to excuse the overload on references...Color Code, Meyers Briggs Personality Test and of course the ...

Tuesday Night "Fellowship"

Last weekend in a car ride to Del Mar, I had an entertaining conversation with a friend and her hub. She brought up changing our circle's weekly Tuesday night dinner to Wednesday nights. "Tuesday Night Dinner" has become a tradition, since we graduated, where five of us buddies from The Naz* get together for a sesh of food and dishing. If we switch "Tuesday Night Dinner" to Wednesday nights (and change the name obviously) she would then be free on Tuesdays to attend a Bible study with some of her church ladies. Apparently up until this point, she has let these ladies assume that she's been unavailable on Tuesdays due to a long-standing other Bible Study! The church ladies have been fooled! Eating sushi and chatting with your girlfriends does NOT a Bible study make! I found the fact that she didn't correct the church ladies to be quite amusing. We laughed about how one could make the stretch. We drink a lot of wine and sometimes we eat bread...tha...

Chick Flick Night

I cannot begin to tell you how much I appreciate a good "Chick Flick." I think it's kinda funny that this term has been coined (I mean I get it, it rhymes, very clever) but c'mon you know the fellas like these "flicks" too! They pretend they're being draaaaaaaaaaged to them by their gf's but I believe that when the roomies are gone for the weekend and the testosterone in the apartment is down, The Notebook and How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days is at the top of the NetFlix Cue! Last night I saw The Time Travelers' Wife with a girlfriend. Between the Quizno's 'wiches and diet cokes we smuggled in, the entertaining previews, and the movie itself (McAdams and Bana's work-incredible) it was a great evening. Although some of the crowd was the typical "dragged" bf and his chick flick lovin' gal, I couldn't help but appreciate being there with my bartending buddy. Seeing previews of the latest Matt Damon film gave us bo...

Quotes from Mars

I am nothing less than intrigued by the male gender.  I find their behaviors and thought processes to be compelling and interesting! I compare my male fascination to the average person watching a lava lamp. I can pretty much guarantee what will happen. It doesn't take that long to heat up. The blobs of goo will sort of bounce around, hitting one side, hitting the other, bouncing off the top, then the bottom, the color never changing. I know that at a certain point, the base of the lamp will burn if I touch it, but sometimes forget and do it anyway...or don't forget at all, but think that maybe this time it won't burn, but will just feel nice and warm! It's so very predictable but something about a lava lamp keeps you watching it, in hopes that something awesome will happen! What really happens...every time...the same blobs...bouncing around...in a way that we should all respect and admire of course. In other words the male gender is ENTERTAINING, for lack of a better w...

Flirting Technique #27: Blogging

Much like every Tuesday night, I met my very favorite gals for dinner. After sharing a bottle of Chard over fish tacos, two of us decided to continue our night out in PB (stands for Pacific Beach, but "Pompous Bros" comes to mind as well). We ended up at a dive called Bub's, nothing but class, where all of 8 girls total, including us, were sharing a bar with many, many....PB's. Your standard encounters didn't keep us from stimulating discussions on life and an enjoyable Bud Light buzz. We had the lonely bar fly come up with two girly shots, inevitably explaining what they were called and what was in them (not wanting to make him feel like a total idiot I didn't tell him that his knowledge was no good here, and that I am what we call a bartender) so we politely took the fruit juice with a dash of vodka. He left quickly (much appreciated) and mumbled something about a pretty smile. Okay, thanks. Another few came up, attempted chatting yada yada. Although we ...

Tangeant Tuesday...is that a stye in my eye?

I went out with a friend last night after bartending.  He is the sweetest..and my new colourist as well. We went out to one of my favorite restaurants after I got off for a "night cap." By the way I'm totally aware that only people over 40 say that. Long story short, I was out late, which led me to needing a good sleep-in sesh. This doesn't happen often anymore. That internal clock that people always talk about (not the one that tells you that you need to have babies soon, the one that tells you to roll outta bed so you get to work on time!) has been waking me up. My body awakes a little before 7am every morning. Because of my complete confusion about the world, I usually spend about 30 seconds trying to figure out if I really do need to get up or not. Questions run through my mind like "Is it Saturday?" "Am I gonna have time to get a latte?" and "Where am I?" I got up this morning (then went back to sleep for another 4 hours) and stumble...

Playa hatin'...a harsh reality

This seems like an oddly serious post to be writing from the couch, with "My Blue Heaven" on in the background. I don't deny my love for Steve Martin and 80's films. I'm normally serving cocktails at this hour on a Sunday night but I came home a little early on account of a terrible tummy ache! Not sure if it's the flu that's going around or the cajun fries Pepe the cook gave me. Whether those babies were the cause or not...they were nonetheless a bad idea. The other option for this ache could be a case of the nerves, another meaning for "upset stomach" if you will. I'm a little upset over a few things. There are times when things go on around you (which have nothing to do with you-and by "you" I mean me) and somehow they still really get to you, to the bottom of your heart. I'm not sure if there is rhyme or reason to it, but at times that these very things which have nothing to do with your life can get you so, so upse...

Taaaaaaaaaake it easy Miss Morgan

I love how in life we come into contact with people that are so different from us. Some we cannot stand to be in the same room with (they make my top 5 in the car game "Name 5 people you don't like...I made it up) On the other hand, it can be a beautiful thing to have a friendship with someone who is so opposite of you that you wonder how you even find your lives intertwining. The biggest blessings in my life are my dear friends. One of those fabulous femmes is a little (little in size, big in heart) friend of mine, Ms. Green. You've heard of her before, see "Sometimes it's just a Yoga Mat" for a quick brush up! Every time I spend time with her I observe her, and since I'm the queen of externally processing, end up telling her about my observations. This might include, "I noticed you put all your Tupperware lids in their own drawer" or maybe something like "How come you sprayed one cookie sheet with PAM and not the other?" I observe ...

A rendezvous recap

Feeling much better today about a few things. First, at the end of the work day yesterday i was pretty much certain that my kiddos would be failing the current huge project they're working on. Today, with a styrophome (go green) cup of coffee in hand, I was not only able to finish up the biggest part of the project with them, but able to help everyone out with their photo shoot portion (thanks to the 'ol Box o fun Costume box) and dance a little with my two favorite middle schoolers. They think I'm crazy. I'm okay with it. Now I can leave for Sister's wedding and not feel like it's the end of the world back at work! Second, date #1 down. A rendezvous recap: I had to push the time back a half hour, so not to rush my gal time. I took a survey of my 4 besties, very intelligent women of course, and asking him to pick me up at 8:30 instead of 8:00 was perfectly okay. So I went with their opinion, being that I know close to nothing about dating...and hate the proce...

A better Monday than the last

Last Monday at this time I was feeling like death...and lookin' like it too! This Monday begins a new week and a new and hopefully improved blonde. I started the day off with 45 minutes of cardio and some squats. My fantastic roomate (who has no morning commitments but still wants to get up at 6:30am to be my work-out buddy) and I have commited to getting our Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays started just like this morning, with an energetic workout. We'll change it up...doing things like swimming, walking, running and maybe taking a class at the gym. I figure not only will this help me feel good in my oh so silky bridesmaid dresses, but it might even put me in a better mood before work, making me like junior highers a little more perhaps? Oh did I mention my free weights had dust bunnies all over them? (there's my confession for the day!) This week I return to bartending on Monday nights. There's nothing I hate more than feeling enslaved to my frenemies Sallie ...

Garrot the Carrot gave me MONO!

I'll be honest with you, my faithful readers, it's possible all of what I'm about to write may be cloudy and un-understandable, being that I am hopped up (or down rather) on Decongestants and Antihistamines. I'm going to attempt articulacy...side note: is it possible drugs make my spelling better? That and losing 3 lbs in the last 3 days might make this all worth while. I felt a little sick 2 weeks ago and have been one of those snotty yet functional kids ever since. Although I survived my Friday night date without sneezing or coughing all over the fellow, Saturday afternoon I started to feel GNARLY. Throat scratchy, ears achy, head congested and overall dissatisfaction led me to a hot shower. Once out of the shower, carefully so not to fall into the wall heater, I realized I had a rash...all over my body! This is where I start to weep a little. Who has a rash like this? This cannot be right. And might I add, going without health insurance seems like a fantastic idea ...

Once upon a Rosecrans...

Once upon a time, off of Rosecrans Street, lived a blonde and a little asian . These roommates decided that the new year should bring revamps to their sweet little 1950's house, owned by the crafty Portuguese man living behind them. Their precious home included Craigslist couches from the hood of Golden Hills, an Ikea kitchen table and Ross decor (Honestly their slogan should change from "Dress for Less" to Decorate for less!) On the last Saturday morning of January, a surprisingly hot one, they decided their kitchen needed some fancy- ing up. They wanted their faux wood kitchen table to become black and "shabby" and the newly purchased shelf (originally green before the spray paint kick) to be hung and adorned with candles. duh. They began spray painting-using canned paint and brushes is so 1990. Comments flew like "We should have a furniture business" and "No wonder gangsters do this, this is fun!" The table had been turned b...

Whining and Wonderful Wednesday. I'm by polar.

So first I'm going to whine. I don't like this weather! It's the WORST when your legs aren't recently shaven (as in it's been a little over 4 days) and you itch because you can feel it against your pants and your dry lizard skin! I got home last night and nearly freaked out. I had to rip my clothes off and pull my hair out of my face before someone got hurt...I guess a shower might have helped my insanity but that seemed like a lot of work. I'm not sure I love junior highers. In fact I might be certain I don't. Those of you that follow this blog know that it is a miracle I have this job. So please don't think I'm an ungrateful brat. I am so very grateful for my position. I just have to say, in an annoying sad voice, I miss Kindergarteners! They just love you so much and they listen to every word you say and respond to things like "If you can hear my voice, put your hands on your head!" They also randomly say things like "Miss Morga...

Things getting me through the week

Turkey bacon and egg whites this morning for bfast, talking to my precious Grandma (especially when she tells me Jack, her dog says hi), being able to use a laptop at work, getting a T-shirt for tomorrow's jog-a-thon, having a 3 day work week- Monday MLK day and Friday off cuz I'll be in Big Bear, looking forward to Big Bear shananaganz, cards in the mail (sometimes with Trader Joes gift cards in them) from my mom, Wednesday night dinners with my best friends, not serving for the rest of the week, having my laundry done as of yesterday, fresh sheets on my bed, the smile on one of my kids' face when I rewarded her with candy today, knowing another pay check is coming in a week, my roommate returning home tonight, my car running well, getting lots of rest! Peace and love.

I am so NOT a screamer

I watch Sex and the City like it's my job. I've seen every episode and watch it nightly on channel 5 at 11:00pm (sometimes back to back with an episode at 11:30 too! Depending on how wild my week night gets.) I recently noticed Sarah Jessica Parker's character Carrie screams all...the...time. She screams when she's scared, excited or even as a flirting technique! A friend of mine who is the female version of a "BALLER" (classy, well dressed and very popular with the opposite sex) also is a screamer. I noticed it when she was at my house doing nothing beyond the ordinary routine of brushing her teeth. Her and her boo were staying at my place and happened to be brushing at the same time. Because my bathroom lacks in space, they were both in the hallway, facing each other, and mumbling flirtations over mouth fulls of Colgate. Note: In a relationship where you're totally stoked on each other, even teeth brushing can be exciting...and worthy of a little scre...

The "Snuggie"

Apparently I'm not the only one who has seen the infomercial for the "Snuggie." I assumed since I have a late-night-TV guilty pleasure, I would stand alone in making fun of this absolutely ridiculous product! After dinner tonight I now know that others are aware of this $20 blanket with sleeves. One of the many savvy gals I surround myself with (gotta love my girlfriends) made quite the conclusion. "It's just a backwards robe!" After the two of us listening pictured the product and made the connection, the convo continued with interrupting waves of laughter. "A backwards robe without the belt" I added. "They look like monks!" "The guy selling this thing must be thinkin 'What a bunch of idiots! They're buying my backwards robe!'" If you're interested in this unique invention call within 7 minutes and get a bonus book light with it (that you can also find at Big Lots for $1.50) What a deal!

Straight from Germany

Getting nostalgic I pulled out my journal from traveling through Europe last summer. So this is straight out of it...poor grammar and all ;) I have to admit I can barely read my own writing! Friday July 18, 2008 We had another great, free hotel bfast, no champagne today :) Checked out. My hypothesis was correct, the clothes hung all around the room are definitely still wet. In the suitcase they go, what are ya gonna do! We checked out and realized "Borkum" our next destination is on another island! We would. Basically we'd have to go back through Hamburg to the other side. Right now we're in Utersum on the island of Fohr. Instead, we cancel our Borkum hostel and with the help of our very sweet German hotel owner, get a cab to the nearest hostel on OUR island. That hostel = full. The lady tells us about "Haus Atlantis" a house behind the hostel building that rents out rooms. We get our ish over there and some how communicate that we ...

Possibly a perfect day

Today has the potential to be possibly a perfect day. Started out the morning by waking up on my own instead of to the deafening sound of my alarm clock...which is strategically placed on the furthest part of my night stand making it necessary for me to get out of bed to turn it off. On a usual day when I have to be woken by the beast of beeping I am immediately a little irritated, more so than the normal irritated state I'm in when being forced to leave my slumber! I lied in my cozy bed for a while, thinking, in and out of REM and then got up before 9:00am, quite impressive on my day off I thought. I hit the gym to make it to the 9:30 Turbo Kick Boxing class. Oh my release! I love pretending to kick and knee and punch someone (kinda creepy, we all have our quirks). Then did some legit arm exercises and finished up by getting in my zen, stretching in the quiet dark room downstairs. Of course there was the standard trainer stretching her client and making small talk, but I was a...
