Burrito or Taco?

I've recently been making efforts to get more involved in my church. For real, it's hard to even go to church for me, let alone go AND be involved in some other capacity like a mid-week gathering! However, for the past two weeks I have been attending a "Community Group" with like-aged people. It turns out there are actually some pretty nice human beings that are a part of this community. Not to mention, my "Ace Hardware" theory... if you want to buy tools, you go to Ace Hardware. In other words, go places where you'll find what you're looking for ie. you want a Christian man...go where there are a whole bunch of them (said the skeptic) otherwise you might just continue finding real tools ! So am I going there with a bad motive you ask? No. I am going there with good motives, hoping for the possibility of some great perks ;) I'll try to wrap up my thoughts in a few short sentences, or maybe a semi-long paragraph? I have mentioned before that ...

Tuesday Night "Fellowship"

Last weekend in a car ride to Del Mar, I had an entertaining conversation with a friend and her hub. She brought up changing our circle's weekly Tuesday night dinner to Wednesday nights. "Tuesday Night Dinner" has become a tradition, since we graduated, where five of us buddies from The Naz* get together for a sesh of food and dishing. If we switch "Tuesday Night Dinner" to Wednesday nights (and change the name obviously) she would then be free on Tuesdays to attend a Bible study with some of her church ladies. Apparently up until this point, she has let these ladies assume that she's been unavailable on Tuesdays due to a long-standing other Bible Study! The church ladies have been fooled! Eating sushi and chatting with your girlfriends does NOT a Bible study make! I found the fact that she didn't correct the church ladies to be quite amusing. We laughed about how one could make the stretch. We drink a lot of wine and sometimes we eat bread...tha...

I chose GOZO

Today I chose joy. I woke up in a rut of worry yesterday. Coincidentily I went to church and heard a sermon, more like sermonette-appropriate for our generation that can't focus on one thing for too long, on Joy vs. Happiness. Hmmm... I knew that the financial woes going through my head and upsetting my heart that morning would soon be behind me once I got to church, usually a high school auditorium does not have this power. I heard the earlier service needed what churches call "Baby Holders." This was my tentative plan (my plans are tentative 99% of the time, ya never know!) and probably would've made me even more joyous on this day...maybe next time. I must say the sleep instead was pure glory. Without giving the sermonette to those of you that are against this sorta thing, I'll simply hit some main points...Everyone recieved a peice of Trident gum on their way in. You were instructed to chew it (church kids are so obedient!) during the service. It was ...

Playa hatin'...a harsh reality

This seems like an oddly serious post to be writing from the couch, with "My Blue Heaven" on in the background. I don't deny my love for Steve Martin and 80's films. I'm normally serving cocktails at this hour on a Sunday night but I came home a little early on account of a terrible tummy ache! Not sure if it's the flu that's going around or the cajun fries Pepe the cook gave me. Whether those babies were the cause or not...they were nonetheless a bad idea. The other option for this ache could be a case of the nerves, another meaning for "upset stomach" if you will. I'm a little upset over a few things. There are times when things go on around you (which have nothing to do with you-and by "you" I mean me) and somehow they still really get to you, to the bottom of your heart. I'm not sure if there is rhyme or reason to it, but at times that these very things which have nothing to do with your life can get you so, so upse...

Grey turned black and white...but mostly black

So as I briefly mentioned in my " Tangent Tuesday" stint, some gray area in my life just turned well, a lot less grey. This is all in reference to P4. Here's a little taste of how p4 treats B.S.S ( Blonde Story Short...me, for the slow learners-I always have you in mind as a Special Needs teacher!) Anyway, for productivity's sake, I'll give some examples in list form-my unspoken thoughts in parentheses as usual: Some of my text- tastic treats: " Ur such a sweetheart, I like you " (Ok fine) " That's one of the reasons I like you...you're funny and clever " (Thank you, thank you, I'll be here all night, don't forget to tip your waitress!) " I love your eyes. Seriously I get lost in them, you don't even know the power you have ." (I could really take advantage of that! But I'll try not to) This is the kinda stuff that I've been hearin ' from P4. This paired with consistency, thoughtfulne...

Grace Face

I had a conversation tonight with my incredibly intelligent and insightful roommate. It started out as most of our discussions do, talking about boys. Yes, I'm 24 years old, pay bills like nobody's biz and hold down two jobs...and still have conversations about "boys." Take your judging elsewhere :) Anyway, we were talking about a "third party" gal who has the expectations of Charles Dickens. This gal went over 22 years without dating, simply because no one met her very, very straight and narrow expectations. When the story began with "3rd party" declining dates due to the prospect's lack of asking her father for permission first, I shared my opinion by pretending I was violently throwing up on the couch. Seriously? Live a little girlfriend! Then the convo continued and we decided that it's only logical that if you widen your expectations the quantity (not necessarily quality) of options expands exponentially. We're a house of ma...

Strategerie...

I want to love people (somehow)in all circumstances. I've been thinking lately that's the whole reason we're here. God gave us a place to figure out how to do that, to figure out where the balance is in all scenarios concerning relationships... Where's the balance between loving people and setting boundaries for yourself? Being tactful and being truthful? Thinking of your needs and being selfish? Behavior that's healthy and unhealthy? Friendly and overbearing? Extrovert and introvert? Needing people and using people? Making things happen and waiting for things to happen? Flirting and well, too much flirting? Admiration and Jealousy? Being strategic (strategerie if you will, if a President says it, it must be a word) and conniving? Childlike innocence and adulthood? I don't want to focus on these things and being "balanced" so much so that I'm inhibited all the time, but I do think being aware is essential...purposeful even! Something to chew ...

Perhaps epiphany-riffic for ya

This is for all the Christian gals - a new (new to me at least) perspective that might be epiphany-riffic for ya. Over a satisfying Pinot and pumpkin scented candle, I had a pretty deep convo with my very wise and refreshing new roomie. Without downplaying the intelligence and open-mindedness of some Christian females, I'd like to propose a partly blanket statement. Here we go... For some reason, some Christian females have this idea that the boyfriend, husband, marriage aspect of our lives is more important to God than every other aspect, including but not limited to job, friends, family, finances, home, dog, city you chose to live in etc. Maybe its more important to you - fine, to each her own. But it seems there's this idea that no other piece of life matters as much to God as "giving you" the "gift" of a man. I am not implying that this part of life isn't important to God, I think it is... *This is where some of you peace out and assume ...
