You complete me.

Remember the elevator scene in Jerry Maguire when the deaf man signs those words to his woman...and Renee Zellweger is moved to tears, then tells Tom what was said? Tom Cruise later says this to her (instead of signing it) and ends up coining the phrase, "You complete me." A year later you could hear this said in an even sincerer form, from Dr.Evil to Mini-Me. As usual, I'm experiencing a theme lately in my world...in conversations with others and thoughts with...well, myself. (I've said it before, you don't wanna be up here.) The theme is the idea of "completeness." Completion is the correct term but we Christians can add "-ness" to any word we choose, making it a descriptive noun. You say purity we say "pureness." Webster's may say devotion, we say "devoted-ness." Feel free to make up words yourself, I am confident you'll find it liberating. This theme of, get ready for it, "completeness," has m...

Last night in San Fran

My last night on "Thanksgiving San Fran Roadtrip 2009" was a difficult one. "Okay you're going to go up that hill for about 16 blocks, then over the Golden Gate Bridge.Once you're off the 101, turn right, then left then left again, then right. You'll know what it looks like." Ok. Quick pep talk to self. Map of strange city riding shot gun...always helpful (when you have the where with all to look down while driving crazy roads and can read maps). A sweaty, shaking version of me made it off the freeway. The lefts and rights began to blur, especially without street names. Once in the residential of the destination I was at a loss. Areas like this one tend to have that every-house-looks-identical appeal. I know they have a mini-van in their driveway. There was definitely a fence. And there was trim around the roof and an American Flag hanging...or maybe a festive turkey flag? Mission Accomplished. Arrival at 7pm, ready for screaming children an...

Wonder Woman is that you?

As Halloween comes near I am reminded of Old Hallows' Eves past. Last year (hold for cliche) I was a pirate. Judge me if you must. It was a group effort and since I was still broke from Euro trip '08 it was one of the only costume ideas I could afford. Gotta love second hand stores that carry pleather, jagged edged skirts and $2 eye patches (new, not used. Hygeine doesn't always come first but as a means of avoiding pink eye, should). I believe Halloween ensembles always create a dilemma for young gals. "Let's see, 2 tanks of gas in my car or sleezy costume from one of those stores that is an empty warehouse year 'round until the month of October?" Decisions decisions! The year before last, apparently funds were of plenty as I did in fact purchase one of those sleazy warehouse costumes. The worst of it being that I have an entire Rubbermaid of costumes. So, I dressed up as a cheerleader. Insert cringe here. What the spirit of rebellion against a crazy...

Drunk girl or just retarded?

Now let me just first say that I am well aware that saying a word like retarded is not very "PC", especially in my field of work! However there is plain and simply no other word to describe this blonde in the story you are about to read, trust me I've racked my brain and even googled... Next month I will be doing something that I have become very good at. It will be my 6th time performing this duty. Six other gals that I will be identically dressed will be doing the same thing. I will be a bridesmaid. If that saying "Always a bridesmaid, never a Bride" just entered your mind, I just want to take a moment to remind you about KARMA. Be nice. I am very excited about being a part of this wedding. From the hot attire (who doesn't love an eggplant cocktail dress!) to the entire wedding party and wonderful couple, it is bound to be a blast. The fun has begun already. In the past month or so, almost all of the (surprisingly good looking) groomsmen have conv...

Top 10 ways to get a date...brought to you by the passive aggressive blonde

The following Top 10 doubles as a list of beautiful gifts (from some very beautiful people at my "Fam Bday Bash") AND items that will apparently get you a date ...well not YOU, but ME. Feel free to take notes, or in this case hit "print", to file this valuable information in your personal records. 1. Movie Tickets...this is where the birth of the comment-taken-too-far took place. 2. Cookbook 3. Earrings 4. Clutch-with seahorses on it...so in love with it! 5. A single cousin (???) 6. A pork chop tied around my neck 7. Another cookbook 8. Polk-a-dot Apron 9. Every day apron (very practical, everyone should have one) 10. Silver Cross charm bracelet Why these items you may ask yourself (or ask me)? I don't know. Apparently once you have chuckled even a little bit, out of embarrassment (or I dunno, possibly due to the fact that there is a quasi-set up situation going on AT the party), you have allowed free reign for the family "joke...

A Quarter-Century

Today I turned 25. It seemed a little anti-climactic since I've been celebrating for the past 48 hours (life is just so hard). Being that my birthday usually falls on Labor day weekend I tend to do that. I started out Saturday with a typical San Diegan social event...beach followed by bar. Now that I'm OLD, I didn't get drunk and hung-over the next morning, instead I was what one might call balanced and had two margaritas (that were of course purchased for me, gotta love birthdays), an ice cream cone, and a good night's sleep. Holla. Sunday was the fam party which consisted of close friends, fam and OC-tastic BBQin. Since today is a Monday, and NOT Labor Day, it happens to be the first day of school. That may have been a bummer to some but to me all I can say is THANK GOD! A little structure never hurt anybody! Especially a yellow, ESFP, ADHD, Virgo! You'll have to excuse the overload on references...Color Code, Meyers Briggs Personality Test and of course the ...

This ship's about to sail

Here in Man Diego there are a lot of...you guessed it, MEN! I've encountered a few. Although I've made some strides in my effort to leave behind "Blanket Statements" (which ironically can be shortened to B.S.) I still hold onto some of the reasonable ones. We've talked before, well I've written and you've read rather, about dating and the inevitable game of text messaging. Thanks to At&T's unlimited plan I haven't gone completely broke yet. Texting is by far the #1 men's choice for communicating. Those fellas just love it. It's less effort than a call and seemingly more friendly than an email. My point is texting is where it's at. You better believe that if you're in your mid 20's anywhere remotely in the vicinity you will be utilizing this technological beast. I went on a date about 2 weeks ago with a "Nice" guy. Note: "Blog guy" existed somewhere in the middle of nice guy's stint. Remember m...

People on Paper

As I attempt to survive this summer I find myself filling out lots and lots of paperwork. There is the job application paperwork which includes things like name, address, previous address, address before your previous address, last 100 places you've worked and the skills you used at those places, references from people who cannot be related to you or know you on a professional level, personal level...or any other level... Once you've gotten someone to hire you, you're called a "NEW HIRE." You have "New Hire" training, "New Hire" codes to get into buildings and of course "New Hire" packets of paperwork to fill out. This includes questions like, "During work hours, if you slip and crack your head open, do you want the option of seeing your own personal physician, or will you be okay seeing ours? I don't know, I'll be unconscious wasn't one of the options. Then of course there is the on going document called the...

Tangeant Tuesday...is that a stye in my eye?

I went out with a friend last night after bartending.  He is the sweetest..and my new colourist as well. We went out to one of my favorite restaurants after I got off for a "night cap." By the way I'm totally aware that only people over 40 say that. Long story short, I was out late, which led me to needing a good sleep-in sesh. This doesn't happen often anymore. That internal clock that people always talk about (not the one that tells you that you need to have babies soon, the one that tells you to roll outta bed so you get to work on time!) has been waking me up. My body awakes a little before 7am every morning. Because of my complete confusion about the world, I usually spend about 30 seconds trying to figure out if I really do need to get up or not. Questions run through my mind like "Is it Saturday?" "Am I gonna have time to get a latte?" and "Where am I?" I got up this morning (then went back to sleep for another 4 hours) and stumble...

I chose GOZO

Today I chose joy. I woke up in a rut of worry yesterday. Coincidentily I went to church and heard a sermon, more like sermonette-appropriate for our generation that can't focus on one thing for too long, on Joy vs. Happiness. Hmmm... I knew that the financial woes going through my head and upsetting my heart that morning would soon be behind me once I got to church, usually a high school auditorium does not have this power. I heard the earlier service needed what churches call "Baby Holders." This was my tentative plan (my plans are tentative 99% of the time, ya never know!) and probably would've made me even more joyous on this day...maybe next time. I must say the sleep instead was pure glory. Without giving the sermonette to those of you that are against this sorta thing, I'll simply hit some main points...Everyone recieved a peice of Trident gum on their way in. You were instructed to chew it (church kids are so obedient!) during the service. It was ...

A rendezvous recap

Feeling much better today about a few things. First, at the end of the work day yesterday i was pretty much certain that my kiddos would be failing the current huge project they're working on. Today, with a styrophome (go green) cup of coffee in hand, I was not only able to finish up the biggest part of the project with them, but able to help everyone out with their photo shoot portion (thanks to the 'ol Box o fun Costume box) and dance a little with my two favorite middle schoolers. They think I'm crazy. I'm okay with it. Now I can leave for Sister's wedding and not feel like it's the end of the world back at work! Second, date #1 down. A rendezvous recap: I had to push the time back a half hour, so not to rush my gal time. I took a survey of my 4 besties, very intelligent women of course, and asking him to pick me up at 8:30 instead of 8:00 was perfectly okay. So I went with their opinion, being that I know close to nothing about dating...and hate the proce...

iThink

On most days the first thing I do upon pulling myself outta bed, an inevitable daily struggle, is put on my iHome. Since I usually can't even figure out what day of the week it is when initially awoken, I definitely never remember what my iPod, located in the iHome of course (Look at me I'm a techy!), was last playing. Hence, I'm left at a loss as to what it will continue to go on playing now. Today, once at the bathroom sink brushing away the morning breath, I realized it was on an album by Bon Iver, one of my crazes of '08. This tells me two things (which is probably plenty to handle this early in the morning): 1. The last time I had the pod playing I must have been feeling a combo of down and/or mellow. Bon is definitely for when I'm in a certain place emotionally...leave it to a girl to associate her simple morning ritual with feelings! 2. I can expect that this album will continue playing as my getting ready routine goes on...put in contacts, Bon Iver...

Hmmmm on a Hump Day

I think it's actually pretty nasty sounding...hump day that is. I can't resist using it though. It truly is the hump of the week that once you get over, makes getting to the weekend seem far shorter. I'm back at work after having 2 weeks off. And a fabulous 2 weeks they were indeed. I can't help but feel like I'm going through this week underwater. Like I have a snorkel and can breathe and all, but instead of really feeling and experiencing each moment of the day, I'm just sort of...swimmin through it, and looking at fish. I seem to be thinking a lot...weird that never happens. I tend to go in circles, remember my spin cycle allusion? Here's a little sample platter of my wonderment: When do we get to the point in our lives where we are hardcore, bonified over-achievers? Where we actually like going above and beyond (aside from in our relationships, that seems pretty natural) and thrive on our productivity and success? Is it possible that the "yellows...

Spring Break '09-Teacher gone wild!

This Spring Break has been quite eventful thus far. It started out last Friday with a Bachelorette Party...not mine, trust me that much could not possibly have progressed in my love life since the last post! It was for the big sis who will be tying the knot in less than 6 weeks! 11 gals set out to Palm Desert to find the following truth: When this many females enter a public place and one of them is wearing a veil, many drinks and even a dinner bill will be picked up by males in close proximity...all weekend. In addition to this fun and practically free weekend of shenanigans, spring break continued with a Sunday night of long island iced teas and Long Boards reggae (won't mention the next morning, which is proof I'm not as tolerant as I used to be!), a day at the beach, a little bit of bartending, hostessing the besties with a warm-weather apprope dinner, spring cleaning and finally a hair appointment. Note: This blonde is au naturale, but uses some highlight help from...

A better Monday than the last

Last Monday at this time I was feeling like death...and lookin' like it too! This Monday begins a new week and a new and hopefully improved blonde. I started the day off with 45 minutes of cardio and some squats. My fantastic roomate (who has no morning commitments but still wants to get up at 6:30am to be my work-out buddy) and I have commited to getting our Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays started just like this morning, with an energetic workout. We'll change it up...doing things like swimming, walking, running and maybe taking a class at the gym. I figure not only will this help me feel good in my oh so silky bridesmaid dresses, but it might even put me in a better mood before work, making me like junior highers a little more perhaps? Oh did I mention my free weights had dust bunnies all over them? (there's my confession for the day!) This week I return to bartending on Monday nights. There's nothing I hate more than feeling enslaved to my frenemies Sallie ...

All this "rain" gave me a rash!

So I have a few modows in life-not to be confused with cliches, I'm so against cliches. One of the many modows (some of which can also be considered blanket statements) is "When it rains...it pours!" I often use this one in reference to my love life. Although it can seem like a drawn out drought, when it comes to dating...when it rains it pours! So this week, I played the role of a pursuee . (Note: I use the word " pursue " and it's noun forms loosely and mostly because the word "prospect" sounds a little demeaning.) Not only 1,2, or 3, but FOUR pursuers were involved in this version of Sara Hates Dating. I hate dating for many reasons which include but are not limited to words like awkward, uncomfortable and Is anybody else watching this?! These feelings of mine will be described in detail in a later blog entry I'm sure. It started out with Pursuer #1 ( P1 ). P1 has been lethargically "pursuing" since July. He writes me...

Routine check up

Why is Routine so hard? Maybe it isn't so hard for everyone, I know some that thrive on it...so why is it so hard for me? I can't even wear a watch without feeling trapped! I finally have a job that has me in a routine. I get up at 7:15 (7:30 realistically), eat a quick bowl of cereal (with flax seed on top if I'm really on the ball that morning), stare into space for a few minutes as I resent leaving my memory foam mattress. Brush teeth, wash face, contacts in (yay for being able to see), make-up on, do something with hair, scan closet for professional clothes (always a struggle not to throw on standard hoodie and holey jeans), ...and out the door for work at 8:00am. Thank God I work 3 minutes away, otherwise we would all be in trouble...and when I say we , I mean me . I stayed home from work last Wednesday since I was starting to feel the relentless I-work-with-dirty-kids-cold. I love, love, looooooved staying home on the couch, sleeping, and spending time with my b...

Grace Face

I had a conversation tonight with my incredibly intelligent and insightful roommate. It started out as most of our discussions do, talking about boys. Yes, I'm 24 years old, pay bills like nobody's biz and hold down two jobs...and still have conversations about "boys." Take your judging elsewhere :) Anyway, we were talking about a "third party" gal who has the expectations of Charles Dickens. This gal went over 22 years without dating, simply because no one met her very, very straight and narrow expectations. When the story began with "3rd party" declining dates due to the prospect's lack of asking her father for permission first, I shared my opinion by pretending I was violently throwing up on the couch. Seriously? Live a little girlfriend! Then the convo continued and we decided that it's only logical that if you widen your expectations the quantity (not necessarily quality) of options expands exponentially. We're a house of ma...

How do I do that???

So I've been recently working on being ME all the time...one of my many "Self-Improvement in the mid twenties-isms" I'm really good at being ME most of the time, but would LOVE to be one of those extremely confident and secure women who is just herself in every given situation... all instead of most of the time! There are times when I definitely hold back and it's generally because of the company I'm in at that given moment. The funny thing is it's an epic battle internally to hold back because my natural inclination is to give my all, all the time, with relationships especially (By the way, I HATE when people say exspecially, there's no X! Don't mind my tangent) Anyway, I have talked to many wise people, females in particular, who have helped me realize that my normal state and being is very vulnerable and it's a balancing act to be who I naturally am and keep my heart safe. I generally do and say things in a way that make who I am very m...
