Burrito or Taco?

I've recently been making efforts to get more involved in my church. For real, it's hard to even go to church for me, let alone go AND be involved in some other capacity like a mid-week gathering! However, for the past two weeks I have been attending a "Community Group" with like-aged people. It turns out there are actually some pretty nice human beings that are a part of this community. Not to mention, my "Ace Hardware" theory... if you want to buy tools, you go to Ace Hardware. In other words, go places where you'll find what you're looking for ie. you want a Christian man...go where there are a whole bunch of them (said the skeptic) otherwise you might just continue finding real tools ! So am I going there with a bad motive you ask? No. I am going there with good motives, hoping for the possibility of some great perks ;) I'll try to wrap up my thoughts in a few short sentences, or maybe a semi-long paragraph? I have mentioned before that ...

Probably the best compliments I've ever received...?

"Your hair looks nice today... ...especially compared to yesterday." -Fellow teacher (who probably doesn't remember any of this) "I'd pick you up if I saw you in a bar" Me: "But I don't wanna be picked up in a bar." "Okay. I'd pick you up if I saw you on a playground." Me: "Creep." -Mr. A (Always good for a laugh...and a minor ego boost) I love my job and the men I work with.

Quotes from Mars

I am nothing less than intrigued by the male gender.  I find their behaviors and thought processes to be compelling and interesting! I compare my male fascination to the average person watching a lava lamp. I can pretty much guarantee what will happen. It doesn't take that long to heat up. The blobs of goo will sort of bounce around, hitting one side, hitting the other, bouncing off the top, then the bottom, the color never changing. I know that at a certain point, the base of the lamp will burn if I touch it, but sometimes forget and do it anyway...or don't forget at all, but think that maybe this time it won't burn, but will just feel nice and warm! It's so very predictable but something about a lava lamp keeps you watching it, in hopes that something awesome will happen! What really happens...every time...the same blobs...bouncing around...in a way that we should all respect and admire of course. In other words the male gender is ENTERTAINING, for lack of a better w...

This ship's about to sail

Here in Man Diego there are a lot of...you guessed it, MEN! I've encountered a few. Although I've made some strides in my effort to leave behind "Blanket Statements" (which ironically can be shortened to B.S.) I still hold onto some of the reasonable ones. We've talked before, well I've written and you've read rather, about dating and the inevitable game of text messaging. Thanks to At&T's unlimited plan I haven't gone completely broke yet. Texting is by far the #1 men's choice for communicating. Those fellas just love it. It's less effort than a call and seemingly more friendly than an email. My point is texting is where it's at. You better believe that if you're in your mid 20's anywhere remotely in the vicinity you will be utilizing this technological beast. I went on a date about 2 weeks ago with a "Nice" guy. Note: "Blog guy" existed somewhere in the middle of nice guy's stint. Remember m...

Flirting Technique #27: Blogging

Much like every Tuesday night, I met my very favorite gals for dinner. After sharing a bottle of Chard over fish tacos, two of us decided to continue our night out in PB (stands for Pacific Beach, but "Pompous Bros" comes to mind as well). We ended up at a dive called Bub's, nothing but class, where all of 8 girls total, including us, were sharing a bar with many, many....PB's. Your standard encounters didn't keep us from stimulating discussions on life and an enjoyable Bud Light buzz. We had the lonely bar fly come up with two girly shots, inevitably explaining what they were called and what was in them (not wanting to make him feel like a total idiot I didn't tell him that his knowledge was no good here, and that I am what we call a bartender) so we politely took the fruit juice with a dash of vodka. He left quickly (much appreciated) and mumbled something about a pretty smile. Okay, thanks. Another few came up, attempted chatting yada yada. Although we ...

Playa hatin'...a harsh reality

This seems like an oddly serious post to be writing from the couch, with "My Blue Heaven" on in the background. I don't deny my love for Steve Martin and 80's films. I'm normally serving cocktails at this hour on a Sunday night but I came home a little early on account of a terrible tummy ache! Not sure if it's the flu that's going around or the cajun fries Pepe the cook gave me. Whether those babies were the cause or not...they were nonetheless a bad idea. The other option for this ache could be a case of the nerves, another meaning for "upset stomach" if you will. I'm a little upset over a few things. There are times when things go on around you (which have nothing to do with you-and by "you" I mean me) and somehow they still really get to you, to the bottom of your heart. I'm not sure if there is rhyme or reason to it, but at times that these very things which have nothing to do with your life can get you so, so upse...

Pre-Wedding

Today is the day my fam and I (including the Bride of course) head up to the site and will attempt to relax. Rehearsal dinner done, tomorrow is the big day. I always think it's so cliche when people call it that. I picture a nerdy guy with huge glasses or a really old grandma with a squeaky voice saying "Are you excited for the BIG DAY?" Then both push their glasses up so that they aren't falling down their noses anymore. Somehow I find myself saying it anyway, it's all the rage. After checking tan and dental appointment off my list I was in the OC ...waiting. Waiting for the MOB (Mother of Bride) to get finish getting ready, hopefully without hurting herself or anyone else in the household i.e me and the dogs. I escaped to get us some lunch, maybe a taco would help? In a fit of thinking ahead (all new to me) I hit Rite Aid to purchase some sleep-aids for the fam (possible Friday night jitters on the agenda) and Excedrin Migraine for me (I can't begin to ...

A rendezvous recap

Feeling much better today about a few things. First, at the end of the work day yesterday i was pretty much certain that my kiddos would be failing the current huge project they're working on. Today, with a styrophome (go green) cup of coffee in hand, I was not only able to finish up the biggest part of the project with them, but able to help everyone out with their photo shoot portion (thanks to the 'ol Box o fun Costume box) and dance a little with my two favorite middle schoolers. They think I'm crazy. I'm okay with it. Now I can leave for Sister's wedding and not feel like it's the end of the world back at work! Second, date #1 down. A rendezvous recap: I had to push the time back a half hour, so not to rush my gal time. I took a survey of my 4 besties, very intelligent women of course, and asking him to pick me up at 8:30 instead of 8:00 was perfectly okay. So I went with their opinion, being that I know close to nothing about dating...and hate the proce...

Please mind the gap...

...between now and the last blog. Trust me I've wanted nothing more than to share my thoughts and recent observations. My journal (the unedited and even more personal version of my blog) has gotten a lot more action lately! My bad. So yes I've still been writing, helpful to keep some form of sanity and YES I've missed all of my blogtastic readers! Got a lot going on in my head and my heart right about now...I feel compelled to go on and on about the last three weeks of life occurrences, but I generally try to refrain from a "keep updated on my life" blog and stick to more of a "huh? that's kinda funny" type of blog. As solely a means of showing how incredibly crazy life has been, I'll give you a brief run down in bullet point form: 1. Cinco de Mayo=White people drinking Margaritas...PB...eery feeling it's 2007 again (my crazy year which included a lot of PB, and I don't mean peanut butter)...seeing one of the old "P4" an...

Awesome encounter with The Spectacular Specimen

Awesome encounter... This is probably the best encounter ever. If you're in a spinny chair, get ready to go nuts...like the 11 year old in my presence currently. I found myself warning, "Hey...make sure you don't throw up over there." Don't you wish I could teach your future children? So, we'll call this male the "Spectacular Specimen (SS)" mostly because I don't remember his name, he obviously made quite the impression ;) He described what he desperately wishes others would notice about him, like so... "People always think I'm a player because of my outward appearance..." My left eyebrow rises at this point. SS continues, "I'm so sick of people calling me things like 'Brad Pitt' and 'Hollywood' ya know? I wish people would see my loving and godly heart instead." This is where I nod my head, in compassion for this poor man who thinks his special, special looks are so troubling. Little does he...

Recession and T-Ball

Recession brings people to desperation. Desperate times call for desperate measures. I can't imagine the choices one would be forced to make if feeding his or her family were at stake. I'm sure that some are desperate enough to do things that in normal circumstances they would be incapable of doing. This is not to be taken lightly. But, on a lighter note, I generally provide one of those, there are also desperate moves that are goin' on during this time that are not a result of survival, but merely something else...which I can't yet put my ring-less finger on. Yes that's right, I'm talking about desperate moves made by men, more appropriately titled, boys. Moves that make me say out loud, "hmmmm?" and also "huh?" I have touched on my "When it rains it pours" theory before. Well it still has yet to be disproved. We got most of the P1-P4's outta there and now there's a whole 'nother team up at bat. I can'...

Grey turned black and white...but mostly black

So as I briefly mentioned in my " Tangent Tuesday" stint, some gray area in my life just turned well, a lot less grey. This is all in reference to P4. Here's a little taste of how p4 treats B.S.S ( Blonde Story Short...me, for the slow learners-I always have you in mind as a Special Needs teacher!) Anyway, for productivity's sake, I'll give some examples in list form-my unspoken thoughts in parentheses as usual: Some of my text- tastic treats: " Ur such a sweetheart, I like you " (Ok fine) " That's one of the reasons I like you...you're funny and clever " (Thank you, thank you, I'll be here all night, don't forget to tip your waitress!) " I love your eyes. Seriously I get lost in them, you don't even know the power you have ." (I could really take advantage of that! But I'll try not to) This is the kinda stuff that I've been hearin ' from P4. This paired with consistency, thoughtfulne...

Tangeant Tuesday, brought to you by the overthinker

I should feel refreshed after a relaxing (sorta) 3-day weekend. That's the thing about being in education, the people that run our schedules think we deserve many random 3-day weekends, and I concur. I'm not exactly refreshed however, since I am in the spin cycle of my over-thinking...just keep going around and around! I have many tangents today. I just found out that this week we are going to be doing Sex-Ed in the 7th grade tomorrow. Lookin forward to that, especially with these 12 year-old yahoos! Happy St. Paty's Day. Hope you're wearing green. I wish there was a book of rules for life...especially for relationships. Black and white could actually be really helpful in certain cases. Unfortunately, most decisions are based on some sorta gray shade. As of an hour ago, my gray sitch just showed its black hue. A decision made. fewf. I got a rolled up dollar put in my hand by a 92 year old customer I served last night. She looked up from her dark, large glasses...

My 2 latest issues involve the word "MO-FO"

Let's start with " Mo-fo " issue #1. Last Monday I was asked to make a list of helpful hints for a coworker (at my bartending job). She would be opening the bar solo the next day and needed some essential reminders...things like; put place mats and rolled up silverware out so people can help themselves etc...just your average list of frivolous information that surprisingly makes a difference. I titled the list "Things that will make life easier." I got a friendly call from my manager on Saturday. FYI I'm not a fan of work related calls on Saturdays-I tend your bar 2 nights a week, beyond that I'd like you to pretend I don't exist! She asked me if I remembered #5 on my list of reminders. Obvious response-"Um...nope." There's only so much room in this head and trust me there's already a lot goin' on up there, I don't recall what "#5."  She continued, "Well you wrote, 'Make extra iced tea, people drink it...

A better Monday than the last

Last Monday at this time I was feeling like death...and lookin' like it too! This Monday begins a new week and a new and hopefully improved blonde. I started the day off with 45 minutes of cardio and some squats. My fantastic roomate (who has no morning commitments but still wants to get up at 6:30am to be my work-out buddy) and I have commited to getting our Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays started just like this morning, with an energetic workout. We'll change it up...doing things like swimming, walking, running and maybe taking a class at the gym. I figure not only will this help me feel good in my oh so silky bridesmaid dresses, but it might even put me in a better mood before work, making me like junior highers a little more perhaps? Oh did I mention my free weights had dust bunnies all over them? (there's my confession for the day!) This week I return to bartending on Monday nights. There's nothing I hate more than feeling enslaved to my frenemies Sallie ...

All this "rain" gave me a rash!

So I have a few modows in life-not to be confused with cliches, I'm so against cliches. One of the many modows (some of which can also be considered blanket statements) is "When it rains...it pours!" I often use this one in reference to my love life. Although it can seem like a drawn out drought, when it comes to dating...when it rains it pours! So this week, I played the role of a pursuee . (Note: I use the word " pursue " and it's noun forms loosely and mostly because the word "prospect" sounds a little demeaning.) Not only 1,2, or 3, but FOUR pursuers were involved in this version of Sara Hates Dating. I hate dating for many reasons which include but are not limited to words like awkward, uncomfortable and Is anybody else watching this?! These feelings of mine will be described in detail in a later blog entry I'm sure. It started out with Pursuer #1 ( P1 ). P1 has been lethargically "pursuing" since July. He writes me...

Don't judge me...although you probably should

I left work today to walk to Starbucks. The first offense being that I probably shouldn't leave work for coffee, although everyone else does. Trust me, a break was in order (as you can imagine based on the previous vent from earlier today). I've realized this week that I have an odd LOVE for pre-algebra. Like really odd. I like it a lot. I committed to two dates this week...with two different males...on different nights, at least I'm a strategic planner! I once gave a hobo my number. See several blogs below. When I see albums on Facebook entitled "We're Engaged!" I do a standard eye roll and X out of the page instantly. I make fun of various accents in my head upon hearing them. Last but not least...I play on the internet (ie update blog, the face, the space, email) while simultaneously tutoring students. Don't judge me...although you probably should.

Grace Face part duex.

I had a thought this morning in my mad rush to get ready for work. FYI, I normally roll outta bed at the last possible second, leaving just enough time to look semi-presentable. I had an idea of what I would wear today since the weather finally permits warm dresses! So, I slipped on my paisley frock and was very intentional about the 3/4 sleve brown cardi I wanted from way in the back of my shark's teeth closet (rows that go deep, but are only about 2 feet wide in total, extremely inconvenient). I knew exactly what I wanted, this particular sweater almost always gets paired with this particular dress, I'm a creature of habit (admittingly not always good habits). As I reached back into the back row of the shark's mouth, I initially grabbed a purple pull-over...so not the appropriate brown cardi I had my heart set on. I quickly put it back without hesitation and grabbed for the sweater I really wanted. Generally I'd mull over the purple one and play with the idea...

Grace Face

I had a conversation tonight with my incredibly intelligent and insightful roommate. It started out as most of our discussions do, talking about boys. Yes, I'm 24 years old, pay bills like nobody's biz and hold down two jobs...and still have conversations about "boys." Take your judging elsewhere :) Anyway, we were talking about a "third party" gal who has the expectations of Charles Dickens. This gal went over 22 years without dating, simply because no one met her very, very straight and narrow expectations. When the story began with "3rd party" declining dates due to the prospect's lack of asking her father for permission first, I shared my opinion by pretending I was violently throwing up on the couch. Seriously? Live a little girlfriend! Then the convo continued and we decided that it's only logical that if you widen your expectations the quantity (not necessarily quality) of options expands exponentially. We're a house of ma...

You know the guy hitting on you is a HOBO when....

1. His dog is waiting for him outside the bar, and at times actually joins him in the bar. 2. He has a backpack. 3. When asking for your number he pulls out a non functioning cell phone... typical collecting of random found items. 4. When the cell phone clearly doesn't work, he pulls out a piece of paper and a black sharpie. 5. Instead of calling you, he wants to "come by" later...mostly because of the no phone situation and lack of housing...and money. 6. He wants to come to your house for the following purposes: to use your razor to shave, your shower to bathe and most likely your home for shelter. 7. His "story" leads you to believe he was once rich, handsome and smart. 8. His "friends" and he hang out outside "Stars and Stripes" liquor store drinking 40's, instead of on his "boat" cuz the "owner is cool." 9. Instead of buying you a beer he pulls one out of his shopping cart. 10. He is barefoot....
