What I just learned from bloggin' around

1.  Tartan is cool.  I have a tartan dress that isn't that cool.  Why don't I wear that tartan dress with something over the top (like my BR white button up) and a skinny black belt...and my black hand-me-down booties...and a feminine jeweled necklace?   DUR! # AnythingWithStuds . 2.  I really should spend more time in second-hand/discount stores.  I like designer things.  I don't like designer prices.   Bingo! # LoveCheria 3. Even hardcore people wear the same workout gear over and over and over again. Alright! #HelloDay 4.  I don't have many blogs that I follow.  Bloggateers..."comment" me suggestions if you have them!  Anything from simple great writing, to health/fitness and girly stuff!  Please & Thank you. 5.  Finishing a sentence with just one word that best translates to "But of COURSE!" is my favorite way to show genuine enthusiasm.

In the bathroom at work

I've mentioned before that I'm just not that creative...not even close to some women I know (in person or in blog). Maybe someday I'll be really good at arranging flowers and using a sewing machine, without hurting myself...or getting bored.  Today isn't that day. I do seem to be getting a little more creative (even getting better perhaps) with putting together an outfit.  Most of my creations happen Monday through Friday for work. Being a non-teacher these days has definitely helped this area of my life. Don't get me wrong there are plenty of stylish and adorable teachers. But when I taught, I scanned the scene and quickly realized putting in a mere 10-20% effort into my style met all necessary expectations. I think we were all just really tired most of the time.  I also attribute motivation in this area of my life to my teeny-boppers at home. I want my girls to see that the way a woman presents herself is important....and I really like it when I wear somet...

Know your Limits

Lessons I've already learned tend to be reiterated (or relearned), on my drive to work. I attribute this to two things:  1) I'm usually caffeinated which makes my memory a little better and 2) It's one of the rare times that I'm alone, without a lot of distractions. Like a typical Monday morning, I pushed the clock to the absolute limit today. This particular morning was well worth it since my hub and I decided to stay one more night away, anchored in the middle of the cove. We brought her into the slip with just enough time for me to have some breakfast, throw on something work-appropriate and straighten my bangs*. Of course I couldn't let his efforts with the french press go to waste, so I took my steaming joe to-go.  Keep in mind, my German car does not have a cup holder- German driving is far too serious to pair with beverages. Naturally I'd pushed my gas tank to the limit too...last week. On Friday when I parked with my car on "E," I'd left...

What I learned at Old Navy

I don't think I'm a super fancy girl, but I do hate Old Navy...so maybe I am. I can plow through a Marshalls, TJ Maxx, (and even Ross with the right amount of energy) and love every minute.  There's just something about child mannequins and ill fitting cotton that makes me...itchy? This week I was forced to patron Old Navy and came up with what I think are pretty productive rules.  If properly followed, a decent shopping experience can be had at Old Navy. Get ready.  These are ground breaking... 1)  While it's tempting to get a smoking deal on an entire outfit, it is absolutely necessary to only  purchase the top tier clothing at Old Navy.  Don't worry this won't break the bank, I don't think.  On Wednesday's lunch hour for example, I ended up buying a light weight knit pull-over that was $24.95 after trying on whole ensembles that would have cost the same amount.  I won't get into the whole "trying on" experience there- maybe a lat...

A REALISTIC perfect day.

This is my perfect day hair. Also my perfect day lips. A perfect day. It's very possible that my gals and I have gone around a dinner table and each responded to this prompt...What is your perfect day?  Good lesson to be learned here- women really like talking.  What?! Obviously starting out with a magical walk on the beach and ending with dinner at Ruth's Chris would qualify as perfect.  These days in the midst of grad school, work, tight quarters and schedules, my perfect day has become just a bit simpler, and much more realistic. I just wanna... Be woken up by my husband on his way out the door, at 7. Drink my latest Nespresso fave "Trieste Napoli".  Somehow it's just as fun to pretend I'm a Barista as it is to sip on that delightful brew. Since my gym bag will have been packed the night before (it was done at the end of the perfect day prior) I'll throw on my favorite Nike Capri's and the rest of the necessary work-out/outer wear f...

Things I can't live without

I suppose since it's Thanksgiving time I should think about all that I am grateful for.  And I will.  Then perhaps I'll write them all down, specific to the people they involve, put them on leaf-shaped cards and pass them out accordingly. As far as BSS goes...I'll just write about what I can't live without.   Superficially speaking... 1.  Baby Powder. It's not #1 by coincidence.  If you don't know the power of the powder, you're about to.  Baby powder is what keeps my coworkers (and probably loved ones) from thinking I'm a total hobo.  No, I don't put it on my body.  Gross...its place is clearly on unwashed hair. As most highlighted blondes know, a day or two (or three?) without a wash can cause some serious rootage.  And that's where the BP comes in.  Not only will you find the smell pleasant, sort of like a newborn's head, but you'll also gain at least an hour of your life. *Teenagehood proved that "doin' hair" mean...

Travel Month

I hate being that girl...no, not the one whose hair naturally dries straight and shiny.  Not the one that is tan year-round (I obviously choose to be either pale OR red year round instead)... The girl I really hate being says things like "Oh my gosh, things are just so crazy right now" and "I don't think I've ever been this busy!"  I'm totally that girl. But can I just say, life is SO BUSY right now! See how annoying that is? In the midst of all that is and is about to be going on (which will undoubtedly ensure new adventures to blog about) I am in the "Travel Month" of work.  This means I go around Southern California, wearing a green polo shirt, and energetically saying things like, "What kind of program are you looking for today?!"  It gets tough to keep the energy up when someone like me hits the road at 6am.  My husband is certain I'm the sweetest female in the world- unless he's waking me up before 8.  I'm...
