Only take candy from strangers

Within minutes...I've got a sore throat, headache, achy body and the chills (when I'm almost always the sweaty girl). I've gotten my usual February sinus infection. Yes my body and immune system are high maintenance. Last year it hit on Valentines' Day, which was such a bummer for all the eligible bachelors trying to take me out. This year it came a little earlier, right after a quirky student gave me a sheet of paper posing as a lab report with "immunizations" on it (long story which ends in a courtesy laugh and new addition to the refrigerator door).

After a 15 hour bed sesh, not as fun as it sounds, I got up to let the apartment maintenance guy in to fix our warped side door. Apparently there isn't anything in San Diego that can handle rain! I told him I was sick (as if my haggard appearance didn't speak volumes) and went back to sleep while he worked.

About 30 minutes later I woke up to the ridiculous noise of the apartment above me being "demo-ed" and the man fixing my door yelling, "hello?!" over and over again. I stumbled out into the living room.

With a miniature bottle of Advil in his hand...and broken English:
"You need this?"
"Oh no thank you, I have...medicine."
"You say you are sick. So I go to get this out of my car."

Although I appreciate the offer, I don't take pills from strangers...just candy.

Playa hatin'...a harsh reality

This seems like an oddly serious post to be writing from the couch, with "My Blue Heaven" on in the background. I don't deny my love for Steve Martin and 80's films. I'm normally serving cocktails at this hour on a Sunday night but I came home a little early on account of a terrible tummy ache! Not sure if it's the flu that's going around or the cajun fries Pepe the cook gave me. Whether those babies were the cause or not...they were nonetheless a bad idea. The other option for this ache could be a case of the nerves, another meaning for "upset stomach" if you will. I'm a little upset over a few things. There are times when things go on around you (which have nothing to do with you-and by "you" I mean me) and somehow they still really get to you, to the bottom of your heart. I'm not sure if there is rhyme or reason to it, but at times that these very things which have nothing to do with your life can get you so, so upse...

Mind Blowing

Just go reheat that coffee for GOODNESS sake! Me reminding myself to try to enjoy life a little. This is a rough time. And I could start a post with those three sentences any Friday of the year, but particularly right now...this is a rough time. The struggle (sometimes TOTAL struggle, depending on the hour and minute) of staying home is of MINOR importance during a time like this, during any time really.  Let's get REAL, for most of us, life is good.  Really good. There are families suffering right now, and not just the elderly members of them. I won't go off on how frustrating it is to hear people lessen the severity of this because it's "just affecting older people." That's 1. Incorrect and 2. Unbelievably disrespectful *If you're lucky enough to have a Grandma or Grandpa still, or anyone in your life that's old enough to be considered "old" be thankful, then CALL them and check in. NOW. The current swing of Social Media o...

Strategerie...

I want to love people (somehow)in all circumstances. I've been thinking lately that's the whole reason we're here. God gave us a place to figure out how to do that, to figure out where the balance is in all scenarios concerning relationships... Where's the balance between loving people and setting boundaries for yourself? Being tactful and being truthful? Thinking of your needs and being selfish? Behavior that's healthy and unhealthy? Friendly and overbearing? Extrovert and introvert? Needing people and using people? Making things happen and waiting for things to happen? Flirting and well, too much flirting? Admiration and Jealousy? Being strategic (strategerie if you will, if a President says it, it must be a word) and conniving? Childlike innocence and adulthood? I don't want to focus on these things and being "balanced" so much so that I'm inhibited all the time, but I do think being aware is essential...purposeful even! Something to chew ...
